Ever since my childhood I was fascinated by fashion and design. As a little girl, I always asked my mom -who is very gifted with her hands- to show me how to make clothes. I was fascinated by it and spent hours on the machine sewing and making stuff, always worried whether someday I would be able to place the wire in the bobbin myself without her help.
Years passed.
I studied health and nutrition, although in my heart I knew this was not my passion and really wanted to become a stylist. But it was fun nevertheless and I also wanted learn and know more about it for personal reasons. I figured it was important to know how to prepare and eat healthy food and take care of yourself. And then one day (nothing happens by chance) the Elite Model Agency is knocking at my door!
Thus began a new career in “the world of Fashion”.
I got caught up in the fashion whirlwind, meeting the biggest stars of modeling such as Lara Stone and Yfke Sturm and moving from fashion week to fashion week… Until I decided to fly out and do my own thing: Creating my own designs. In 2007 I moved to Marrakech in Morocco to establish my own brand. Starting with a fashion-line of sports- and casual clothes designed for modern women who love a trendy lifestyle and feel good about what they wear. It is specially meant to give “a feeling of freedom.”
In 2009, after talks with TeunBart, my great confidant, we decided to convert one of his stores in the Netherlands into a concept store called “Maëlla One of a Kind”.
The key word in all aspects to be found and associated with Maëlla One of a Kind is to minimalize, so you are left with the beauty of simplicity….
